Day 2 – Nepal Embassy

International aid donors expressed alarm on Friday after the Nepal government warned that all donations to help its earthquake victims must be made to its Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

The announcement was seen as an attempt by the ruling Nepal Congress Party to seize control of millions of pounds of aid donations being sent from around the world and raised fears that it could be allocated for political considerations rather than humanitarian need.”

By Wortimla Zimik:

As planned, i approached the bus people where i got to know that even the relief materials are getting stuck in customs at the Nepal border. We, then having no choice left…went to the Nepal Embassy, Barakhamba Road and stood there, wandered for hours, spoke and approached a lot of Govt. Officials for more than four hours. No help received.

We were told that we have to either surrender our donations to the GOVT. Officials who will take care of it in the Govt. Warehouse and its distribution, where it goes…etc etc… Which was very very annoying. At least, Let people help… even if you are not willing!

The Officials seemed as if they were expecting a bribe from me… making me wait for hours and hours and i saw people like us getting away merrily shaking hands etc… I wonder … Did they offer this guy something? But i was not willing to do this at all… I would rather go through the legal thing and get my customs and taxes levied or imposed, if the country official forces. I would at least  stand in a position to ask for a proof… which i can declare to the world…. How the GOVT. is reacting at such Crisis and disheartening circumstances…. How selfish a human can be? When people from different worlds are ready to donate, help in any way financially, physically and mentally. Why is it that Nepal Government still gives importance to politics and so on instead of focusing on humanity while the entire world is trying their level best to support?
